Home town:   Brunswick , Ohio

Undergraduate Degree:   B.S. Biomedical Engineering
Case Western Reserve University
Cleveland, Ohio

Research Interests:   Biomaterials Research

Career Goals:
Obtain a Principle Scientist position with a growing company in industry, teach at a local university, and serve as a liaison between the academic and industrial worlds

Current Activities: Currently, my research focuses on how the inflammatory and immune systems deal with implanted biomaterials. Specifically, I investigate cellular interactions with cardiovascular biomaterials at the material surface. Our goal is to determine how different surface chemistries can be used to modify the cellular response and ultimately inhibit degradation and improve the lifetime of biomaterial in vivo.

Why Case? Case is an extremely friendly, cutting edge, and motivating environment. While earning your degree here, there are various opportunities to get involved in the department, university, and BME field at large through committees and conferences. By getting involved in all of these areas, you have a unique opportunity to meet and work with the top researchers in the field, gain first hand knowledge of the cutting edge research, and fully prepare yourself of a lifetime career in BME.

Advice for Applicants: I highly advise new students to meet with faculty, get to know their area of interest, and match your areas of interest with theirs. This will help you to find your perfect "home lab" here. Also, talk with graduate students in the department and in your labs of interests. They are the inner workings of this department and can really teach you the ropes.
