After Graduation
Some BS graduates are employed in industry and medical centers.
Others continue studies in biomedical engineering and other fields. Students with
engineering ability and an interest in medicine may consider the undergraduate biomedical
engineering program as an exciting alternative to conventional premedical programs.
The undergraduate program leads to the B.S. in Engineering with a
major in Biomedical Engineering. This BME program, accredited by the Accreditation
Board of Engineering and Technology, prepares students for employment directly in
industry and medical centers, as well as for graduate study in biomedical and other
fields of engineering and biomedical sciences. In addition, biomedical engineering
is an excellent preparation for professional schools (e.g., medicine, law, and management).
Over the past few years, ~35% of our graduates have matriculated at medical schools,
~36% have matriculated at graduate schools, and ~29% have gone on to industrial sector jobs.
A selection of appropriate electives is available within the curriculum to prepare for
these careers. Each student is guided in the selection of courses by a BME faculty adviser.
