Biomedical Engineering Student Awarded ISOTT's Britton Chance Award

Jessica Spires

Jessica Spires, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, was given The Britton Chance Award by the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT) based on her research presentation "Hemoglobin and Myoglobin Contributions to Skeletal Muscle Oxygenation in Response to Exercise". This prestigious award is given for research accomplishment by a young investigator in an area related to oxygen processes in tissue. Jessica's mentors in this research are Professors Saidel and Lai of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Ms. Spires’ presentation was made on July 9, 2009, at the ISOTT annual meeting held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. ISOTT is an interdisciplinary society that brings together scientists, engineers, clinicians, and mathematicians in a unique international forum for the exchange of information and knowledge within the field of oxygen transport to tissue.
