Case BME student wins Canadian NSERC Fellowship

Nick Wang, a first-year graduate student in Dr. Horst von Recum's lab was awarded a National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Fellowship. This is the Canadian government's equivalent of the National Science Foundation.

Nick got his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in Materials Science and Engineering in 2005 where he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Ober on using polymers to prevent fouling. He then spent one year working for Boston Scientific in the Urology/Gynecology division before deciding to come back to graduate school.

In his research Nick is developing polymeric platforms for the delivery of proteins in HIV therapy. This project is a collaboration with the laboratories of Dr. Michael Lederman and Dr. Scott Sieg at the Center For AIDS Research (CFAR) at Case. The project was selected as one of the pilot projects for seed funding from the Coulter-Case Translation and Innovation Partnership, as well as for a Presidential Research Initiative Award.
