Dr. Rollins speaks during the panel discussion |
The Biomedical Engineering Freshmen class
recently invited biomedical imaging faculty members to
participate in a Panel Discussion during EBME 105: Introduction
to Biomedical Engineering. The Panel Discussion focused
on current issues and future improvements of non-invasive
biomedical imaging for the study small animal disease models
and for clinical diagnostics in human patients. Students
asked a variety of questions that ranged from engineering
developments, clinical health care, and daily activities
performed by biomedical imaging researchers. Panelists
responded very enthusiastically to the challenging questions,
and often "competed" for the opportunity to use
the single microphone. After the class period, students
and panelists met on stage to continue the discussions.
Dr. Marty Pagel, the EBME 105 course instructor,
remarked that "the Panel Discussion was very successful
in accomplishing four goals: it was a great review of imaging
course material; it demonstrated the future directions
in our field; it also conveyed the excitement that we feel
about our research; and most importantly, it was yet another
great opportunity to welcome our newest freshman biomedical
engineers to our profession through direct interactions
between students and faculty. Based on the success of this
event, I'm really looking forward towards the Biomaterials
Panel Discussion in our course on December 7!!!".
