DR. ROBERT KIRSCH AND DR. MARTY
PAGEL NOMINATED FOR AWARDS RECOGNIZING EXCELLENCE
IN UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING AND MENTORING
The Department of Biomedical
Engineering is proud to announce that this spring,
two BME primary faculty members have been nominated
for the prestigious J. Bruce Jackson and Carl
F. Wittke awards. Dr. Robert Kirsch and Dr. Marty
Pagel have been nominated for the J. Bruce Jackson
award for outstanding undergraduate mentoring.
Dr. Marty Pagel was also nominated for the Carl
F. Wittke award for undergraduate teaching.
The J. Bruce Jackson, MD award
was established by J. Bruce Jackson in 2003 in honor of his mentor, Dean Carl
F. Wittke. The Jackson award recognizes outstanding advising
and mentoring of undergraduate students. The
criteria for this award include guiding the student
toward the discovery of academic and career paths,
fostering the long-term personal growth of the
student, and supporting and facilitating the
student's goals and life choices. The Carl F.
Wittke award was established in 1971 to honor
Case faculty members who demonstrate an excellence
in undergraduate teaching, and is awarded to
two faculty members each year.
The BME department is also proud
to have had two past winners of the Carl F. Wittke
award teach in the department. Dr. Ronald Cechner,
teacher of EBME 202 and Assistant Professor of
Anesthesiology, was the recipient of the award
in 1984 and 2002. Dr. Dominique Durand, Professor
of Biomedical Engineering, was awarded the Wittke
award in 1991.
