A New Era for BME
During the last year, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has developed
a new web site to meet the needs of all department personnel, including prospective students,
current students, faculty, staff, and employers. The new web site will first be unveiled to a
subset of the department personnel for comments and feedback. In addition, department personnel
will be completing and validating the web site content, and additional images will be acquired
and inculded in the web site. This work will be completed before September 6 in order to
provide additional momentum to Case's new branding initiative.
According to Marty Pagel, "It's been a long process, but we're finally nearing the end." Dr. Pagel has been coordinating the development of the new web site with a variety of colleagues, including Kathy Gill, the Director of Employer Student Relations of the Department of Biomedical Engineering; Taufiq Hussien, an undergraduate student majoring in Ssytems Engineering; Rafael Salazar, System Administrator of the Department of Neurosciences; and Zachary Hoon of Z-Med, Inc. Activities have included the installation of a new Linux web server, development of new web page templates, implementation of the Case web toolkit, and major updates & revisions of web site content.
Of course, the best web sites are dynamic engines that produce new information to respond to the needs of their clients. Therefore, the Department of Biomedical Engineering has partnered with Jayne Hoon, Director of of Marketing of the Case School of Engineering, and other colleagues in CSE to develop a plan for maintaining and further developing the BME web site with other web sites in the CSE. These new developments will greatly benefit from new equipment and a new CSE web site developer that will join Case in the near future. In other words, the new web site is not just a quick repair of the old BME web site---instead, the continued development of new web technologies represents a new era for BME.
