Education
BS in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University, May 2009.
In Progress: MD at University of Toledo College of Medicine, expected graduation date June 2013.
Goals
To complete medical school and pursue a career in Neurology, Urology, or Cardiology.
Research Interests
My projects have included a characterization and safety assessment of implantable nerve cuff electrodes used by our lab in high frequency AC stimulation (HFAC). By analyzing the potentials and currents at the electrode-electrolyte interface in vitro, insight is given into whether or not electrical stimulation is creating harmful byproducts in vivo.
My current project uses the MRG axon model to explore methods for eliminating onset response in HFAC stimulation. By using modified waveforms for stimulation, the undesirable onset response can be eliminated and unwanted action potentials can be prevented
My long-term goal is to aid in the translation from animal to human experimentation so that the novel HFAC techniques used by our lab can be used to aid individuals with spinal cord injury. As a physician, I hope to one day be able to implement similar devices into my own patients.
Interests and Activities
Zeta Beta Tau, Phi Delta Epsilon Medical Fraternity, Basketball, Soccer, Travel.
